Hi all,

First I think and hope that EE will provide the foundation I need for creating and maintaining a unbeaten vibrant and interactive website. Now here’s what I want and to test this I guess the trail version is enough, so I will through the ball to experts and hopefully get some insight from the experts so I could take my final decision. I’m attempting to have the following in my website using EE:-

Main module
Free update and a new module downloads using the siteupdate technology;
Control Panel to edit the site from the public section;
Assign access rights to users, groups
Manage the site interface languages;
Manage the e-mail message templates;
User and groups managment with custom fields

Structure Management
Manage the site structure;
Edit the menu;
Assign access rights to members group for them to see only the target text

Information Blocks
Publish news, press releases, vacancies, etc.;
Manage photo galleries;
Create the hierarchical catalog of products and services.

Workflow
Collaborative work management;
Assign status to the workflow member depending on access rights;
Build the document approval chain before publishing;
Track document access and modification history.

Helpdesk
Helpdesk service management;
System for visitor inquiries to the site administration, etc.

Commercial Catalog
Provide for wholesale, retail and dealer prices;
Dealer network management.

Shopping Cart
Create an online store;
Efficient electronic sales management.

Currency
Set currency exchange rates;
Set several currencies for the price.

Web Forms
Feedback, order, questionnaire form creation and management;
Storing and structuring information collected from the users.

Statistics
Advertising campaign performance analysis;
Advertising channel cost estimation;
Event logging;
Site audience traffic estimation;
Search engine analysis (page indexing, search keywords, etc.);
Site traffic analysis and more.

Advertising
Placing and controlling banner ads of different types;
Manage show period and banner clicks;
Targeted advertising and more.

Forums
Create any number of forums;
Manage visitor access rights to read and post messages;
Moderate forums.

Newsletter
Store and manage the subscriber database;
Create newsletters;
Send newsletters to subscribers from the site;
Keep newsletter issues archive.

Polls and Surveys
Conduct polls and voting;
Site visitor questionnaires.

Search
Automatic site indexing and search;
Logging visitor search keywords in statistics.

If these are possible, how much php knowledge is required to get this goin in EE and how much time it will take for the setup? I’m ready to pay, please contact me with the quote…its open for everyone who ever read this form but my only concern is time

Thank you in advance, I know this is a long list but this will help me to take the decision.

Warm regards,
Devil

Well, the length of this scared me off, I tell you. *grins*. But let me give it a shot.  Before I begin I’d like to say that I’m not going to be able to cover all of your points and I may miss some things that could be done via php/mysql especially.  But here we go.

Main module
Free update and a new module downloads using the siteupdate technology; - No idea what you mean by this
Control Panel to edit the site from the public section;masked control panel access done easily - custom one? probably, but would be some work.
Assign access rights to users, groupsyes to groups, not to individual members - there are feature requests for this
Manage the site interface languages;I’m not conversant with this aspect, there are a lot of posts on it - but certailnly doable
Manage the e-mail message templates;yes
User and groups managment with custom fieldscustom fields for member profiles, not for groups

Structure Management
Manage the site structure;of course
Edit the menu;what menu where?
Assign access rights to members group for them to see only the target textyes

Information Blocks
Publish news, press releases, vacancies, etc.; yes
Manage photo galleries;there are photoblog templates, and a photoblog module slated to come out soon (no eta yet)
Create the hierarchical catalog of products and services.yes

Workflow
Collaborative work management;not sure what you have in mind here
Assign status to the workflow member depending on access rights;yes, there are entries in the knowledge blog on this
Build the document approval chain before publishing;isn’t this workflow?
Track document access and modification history.no and you can only get the posted and last edit date, although you could use a bunch of custom fields.  There is a feature request out there for revision histories, I believe

Posting this before I lose it, more coming. =)

Helpdesk
Helpdesk service management;Not sure what you want to do here, but I can think of a few ways to handle it
System for visitor inquiries to the site administration, etc.Again, I can think of ways to handle this, but there is no “help desk module” per se - doable, though

Commercial Catalog
Provide for wholesale, retail and dealer prices;There is no ecommerce module yet though I believe it’s planned.  We have a few users that have done things with it already and there are posts on that
Dealer network management.This is so far beyond my area of expertise I’m not even going to try. =) )

Shopping Cart
Create an online store;See above on ecommerce module
Efficient electronic sales management.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Currency
Set currency exchange rates;I can envision away to do this using global variables etc, but someone else will need to comment more
Set several currencies for the price.^^^^

Web Forms
Feedback, order, questionnaire form creation and management;There are contact forms and I believe that you can use custom fields with these
Storing and structuring information collected from the users.mmmmm, might need some custom database work here, not sure.

Statistics - Avoiding this whole section as I don’t know. =)
Advertising campaign performance analysis;
Advertising channel cost estimation;
Event logging;
Site audience traffic estimation;
Search engine analysis (page indexing, search keywords, etc.);
Site traffic analysis and more.

Advertising
Placing and controlling banner ads of different types;This would be done in your templates and cs, so yes
Manage show period and banner clicks;Not that I know of
Targeted advertising and more.Not that I know of

Forums - Let me answer this in bulk -  not right now, but there is a forum module being worked on and I believe it is due soon, but there is no ETA
Create any number of forums;
Manage visitor access rights to read and post messages;
Moderate forums.

Newsletter
Store and manage the subscriber database;yes
Create newsletters;yes
Send newsletters to subscribers from the site;yes
Keep newsletter issues archive.not sure

Polls and Surveys
Conduct polls and voting;there is a polling module being tested but I am unsure of the status of it at the moment, thread is a few posts down
Site visitor questionnaires.

Search
Automatic site indexing and search;Entries are searchable, so depending how you structure things, yes
Logging visitor search keywords in statistics.You can show recent searches (there are instructions on Lynda’s site) but I’m not sure how far in depth you could take that

Ok, my answers are in italics.  I realize that I didn’t answer everything and may have raised more questions.  I’d suggest you procure the trial and have a look at it. =)

Statistics
Advertising campaign performance analysis;
Advertising channel cost estimation;
Event logging;
Site audience traffic estimation;
Search engine analysis (page indexing, search keywords, etc.);
Site traffic analysis and more.

This is something that you will not usually find in ANY CMS system, this is specialized stuff normally handled by using a combination if cookies, web server logs, and log analysis tools, like Urchin with its campaign tracking module (the whole package will set you back about $3000 or $4000 unless you are with a hosting provider that can provide them to you as part of a hosting deal (usually with fees), or something like WebTrends which is also a costly system (more so then Urchin).

As far as the other sections I think LisaJill did a good job at covering some of them, but you are still looking at many things that specialized applications exist for and even $150k+ CMS systems I have worked with in the enterprise market can’t out of the box do much of what you are asking above without 3rd party add-ons or down right custom programming…

So while yes, I think much of it could be done, and more so as future modules are released for EE, some of it like the advertising analysis and cost tracking stuff is still best left to applications that specialize in supplying that knowledge if you really need it.

I was googling n found out a professional solution with followings:-

Main module
Structure Management module
Information Blocks module
Helpdesk module
Web Forms module
Statistics module
Advertising module
Forums module
Newsletter module
Polls and Surveys module
Search module

All this for 970$ And their enterprise version have all of above I stated in my first post with the price of 1970$. But what I didn’t like it; the reason is we can’t have custom fields in membership registration like EE… EE is really a cool one but it’s very deep and ATLEAST requires intermediate knowledge of PHP and web development to implement any solution.

Can I have suggestion from experts on what options I have with EE to build a web site which will be selling memberships for that site?

I really like EE , and the core design of it… its really very user friendly but developing a website requires real development knowledge and till now I haven’t even found any recourse who could do that or develop website on EE.

Thanks a lot,
Devil

I would really appreciate a link to a website selling memberships or similar developed on EE. Also I will appreciate if someone could help me in finding a real cool CMS for membership selling websites or similar as a standalone solution or even an add-on to EE.

I haven’t heard of anyone with a membership selling solution using EE.

There is an ecommerce module coming (no eta) and I know I’ve been waiting for that.

What I’ve found is this product: aMember Professional -
membership software

They have an EE module that you’d have to purchase as well.

I don’t have this package, and haven’t done any more than ask a few questions about it.
