As superadmin I created a “member” account then logged out and tried to then login as that member.  It won’t let me.  It says: “You are not authorized to perform this action”
I have tried changing the password to no avail.  I can login as superadmin but not as this new member.  What gives???  No this member is not banned or any such status that might block them out.

Where are you trying to log in?  The main site or your Control Panel?  Users assigned to the “member” Member Group do not have access to the Control Panel by default.

Sorry…it’s the main site login that’s failing.  I’ve scanned the Forum and see nothing like this.  I did find that thread in the Knowledge Blog about CP login but that’s not what I’m trying to do.  Do I need to toss my cookies?

I was hoping someone would respond, since I can’t login yet.  Am I the first person to run into this problem?  As superadmin, I simply created a new member user.  I then tried to login to the main site as that user and I can’t.  And yes, I did log out of superadmin first.

When you say “member user”, do you mean that they are assigned to be part of the “Member” Member Group?  They aren’t still a Pending member, are they?

No they are activated.  When (as superadmin) I go to Admin>Activate Pending Members it says “There are no member accounts awaiting activation”

I also forgot to include the text I see at the failed login attempt:

“You are not authorized to perform this action”

I finally figured out the problem!
I didn’t know what you meant by the Control Panel login.  The only login I had ever tried was going to http://www.domain.com/system/index.php I thought that was the login to the site. I didn’t realize that WAS what you call the CP login.  I thought the CP login was yet another login.

So I realized I had to go to www.domain.com/index.php, and click on the Login button THERE.  Then I was able to login as the member user.  Dah!!

Hope this posting helps someone else figure out the difference based on the URL.

Site login:  http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php (then click Login link)
