Have set ‘moderate comments’ in Comment Posting Preferences (Weblog management bit of Control Panel) to yes.

How do I as moderator then ‘approve’/publish the comments please?

When you login to your control panel there should be, in the top right column, a link that says “Comments Awaiting Validation (0)” where 0 is the number of comments (I don’t moderate mine, hence it’s 0 =))  Click that link then change the status of the comment to whatever you prefer.

I have never moderated comments on my site and thusly can not tell you if you get an email when one is made and is awaiting validation- I suspect muchly that you do but I’m not 100% sure. =)

Thanks for that LisaJill - must confess to not having noticed that line before. Yes - you get copies of the e-mail along with the comment ID.

However - on checking “Comments Awaiting Validation ” found that mine is 0 too - should be 4 (don’t laugh).

When I click on the ID I just get the bare comment entry page as usual.

Might it be relevant that anyone can post comments not just members?

Surely there is a handy little button somewhere? Could work this on pM Pro -problem just arises since migration to ee.

Do you actually have comment moderation turned on, mary?  There are really two areas to look at for this:

1. Under Admin > Weblog Management you specify whether comments for that weblog are moderated.

2. Under Admin > Member Groups there is a setting for each Member Group that determines whether or not that Group ignores moderation.  Superadmins ignore moderation, for instance, which means their comments are posted immediately.

Yes comment moderation was on - button selected in weblog management.

I don’t run member groups as yet so possibility no.2 isn’t likely to apply.

Further thoughts?

Well whether you “run” them or not, member groups run. =)

Go and check the guest and member groups for what permissions they have with comment posting, and change to what you desire. =)

OK did that and all member groups had the ‘no’ option checked for ‘Exclude member from comment moderation’. Bit of a double negative but take it that means that no-one is exempt from comment moderation.

Still problem of how to publish moderated comment. Must be missing something very obvious.

Getting late here in Glasgow (Scotland) so over and out for now.

Anymore ideas on this please? Surely someone out there is running comment moderation . . .

In the meantime I’ve allowed comments but not totally happy with that and the earlier comments awaiting moderation are still in limbo.

The EE Knowledge-Blog uses comment moderation, so it does work.  As the entry about this in the KB states (and as I mentioned above) there are really only two things you need to check for moderation.

Are you running the latest version of EE?

I’ve looked at the KB and note the paragraph there about moderation.

So a comment is submitted, arrives in your e-mail Chris, you look at it and . . . then how do you publish it?

(The Comments Awaiting Validation line on the Control Panel home isn’t a clickable link on my screen).

Latest version of EE? Hope so but how can I be sure?

Thanks for your patience (!)

If “Comments Awaiting Validation” isn’t an active link then it means that EE doesn’t have any unmoderated/waiting comments.  As for the latest version, there was a bug fix release on June 15, so if you’ve installed since then you should be good.

If you want to privately email me access information for your EE Control Panel I’ll take a look around and see if I can determine what’s going on.  Be sure to reference this thread URL if you do email me.
