For those of us building big sites, we can use 30+ weblogs for all the various sections of our sites. It would be super handy to (a) be able to set preferences for all weblogs globally (eg turn trackback off, customise publish page etc) and (b) set them as defaults for creating new blogs. Maybe a generic global weblog preference page would be useful where you could set the defaults for creating new blogs -and- choose to set that preference globally for all weblogs if necessary. In the mean time I’ll keep running SQL queries similar to what Robert suggests, but an interface would be nice! smile

Luke, I already set defaults for my templates by making the default values set to use PHP and parse incoming.

You can do the same thing with the exp_weblogs table:

enable_trackbacks - set the default for that to be n.

show_url_title show_trackback_field show_ping_cluster show_options_cluster show_button_cluster show_author_menu show_status_menu show_categories_menu show_date_menu

These are new to 1.1 - you can set the defaults for these to be y or n.

Hi Sue, the per-template group preferences are quite handy, but I’m not sure I follow you with regards to the weblogs prefs. I’ve set some of those values you mention to n using SQL queries, but they still default to y (yes) when a new weblog is created, which is a bit of a pain. Does the same thing happen for you, or are you controlling the defaults in another way? I’m running 1.1b2.

I make weblogs on the fly with a sql query.

The routine to make weblogs must be hard coding instead of reading the default values for the table.

Hmmmm….

When you make a new template, it does honor the settings in the table.

I’ll have to go dig in the 1.1b2 code a bit.

(I had to add 50 weblogs on the fly for a project - a weblog for each state, so I wrote code to make the insert statement.)

I consider this a bug. smile

I would love such ability through CP.
I think that every developer should ask himself, whatever the CMS is : “Will my software still be comfortable for a 1000 members site ?”
If yes than it will also be more comfortable for a 10 members sites.
