2005 was a year of great building.  We released two new versions of ExpressionEngine.  Threw in a few points releases and various builds in between while we were at it.  Hired ourselves a Vice President, who sadly does not live in Miami and thus I have no semi-clever nickname for him.  Oh, there was that small little thing called the Discussion Forum module that we released to some small fanfare during the summer.  Redesigned and reorganized our site, and finished up a clean reworking of the docs with new tutorials for beginners.  Finally, if I recall, recently we started giving away the Core system to all, and I think that might have gone over well too.

continue…

Almost got me there for a second, you know? You, too, enjoy the holidays, I think we all agree you well earned them. Looking forward to “being vowed” by more substantial announcements next year ...

I wish you shot the forums down as you go so I could have a real holiday too.

4 weeks, no internet, it sounds great!

There’s no doubt you guys deserve a long break. 2005 has been the best year yet for pMachine and ExpressionEngine. Here’s to many more years that only get better and better!

It’s time to accept what (our) French politicians call ” the Venice temptation”, just for a while though. We as Europeans appreciate the great job done in making EE a universal program and the support we get in forums by the whole community. Happy holidays guys !!!

Actually, the, shall we say, somewhat smaller—but sufficient—feature set of the EE forums are one of the reasons I like them very much. That, and the tight integration with EE, obviously.

I don’t know uBBThreads, but a lot of the other (commercial) forum packages out there have features that very few, if any, users really need, and as a result, tend to feel somewhat bloated. I am hopeful (positive, actually) pMachine can withstand that temptation.

I totally agree.
There are only a handful of features/tweaks that I miss in the forums.

Does anyone know where I can get plugin for the Discussion Forum module of EE to do the following:

- Google Adsense plugin

- shout box

- skins / themes

- who is online - who is doing what - page

- static search displays (like today’s posts for example)

- member billing and paid member type indicators for post mini profile

- calendar in forum

- (other commercial / revenue generating plugin )

I agree with Ingmar, (see here). There was also a long discussion about the forum module here. My conception of EE’s goal is that they are not going to compete with full featured forum packages right now.
