I am attempting to install the demo of EE and have hit a snag. I am totally new to MySqL and my understanding of it is very little. I am following the EE installation instructions carefully, but I’m not getting the Set File Permissions portion. In the instructions, it says to set appropriate file permissions to 666 and 777 respectfully. (See attached file)  How do I do this? Do I open the PHP document and simply type in the appropriate number? The documents are blank when I open them so do I just type it on the first line and save? Or… Do I do this AFTER the files have been uploaded and I select “Get Info” on the file? When I do that, it gives me permissions options (Owner, Everyone, World with the options of read, write, or both) but nowhere to actually assign 666 or 777.

Also, I have preliminarily set up the database through the MySQL Database setup and admin on the host server (Linux). The status shows ready. Now, when I upload the files through FTP, do I upload the entire folder named “EECore1.4.1” or do I open that folder and upload the files contained within seperately?

I am so excited to start learning and implementing EE, it seems like the perfect solution I’ve been looking for. Any help is so very much apprecaited and I thank anyone ahead of time for any advice/instruction.

In the instructions, it says to set appropriate file permissions to 666 and 777 respectfully. How do I do this?

Usually, by using your FTP client.

Or… Do I do this AFTER the files have been uploaded and I select “Get Info” on the file?

Yes.

When I do that, it gives me permissions options (Owner, Everyone, World with the options of read, write, or both) but nowhere to actually assign 666 or 777.

Yes. 666 = Owner, Group, World: Read and Write. 777 = Owner, Group, World: Read, Write and Execute.

Now, when I upload the files through FTP, do I upload the entire folder named “EECore1.4.1” or do I open that folder and upload the files contained within seperately?

Yes, the contents of the folder will do just fine.

Everything will be good in the end. If it’s not good, it’s not the end.
