I’ve just installed the forum module on our intranet, and it all seems to be working OK apart from a couple of things.

At the top I’ve got:
Logged in as:  Aegir Hallmundur   ·  Your Public Profile   ·  Your Control Panel   ·  Member List   ·  Log-Out

Unfortunately the “Your Control Panel” link doesn’t do anything. It links to “http://expressionengine.com/forums/member/profile/”, but clicking it doesn’t do anything. I’ve tried it on the pmachine forums here and it looks like what you get in the normal EE control panel for “My Account”. It doesn’t work for me or the other people with access.

The second problem is more strange. Clicking “Forum Home” gives the usual, with a list of the forums. I’ve got a user set up on a new member group called “Admins” - which has all the rights of “Super Admins” except they can’t edit templates. When he logs in he gets the same content, but the forum list is linearised. Check out the attachment. On the right is what I see, on the left is what he sees - I’ve logged in as him with my usual browser and verified it’s wierdly different.

Regarding the “your control panel” issue.  Are you getting a blank page?  If so, you’re running out of memory.  By default, PHP only has you 8 MB of RAM assigned to it (in the PHP config file), which is a bit meager.  Due to the way the member profile area is generated within the forum it needs a bit more RAM.  You might ask you system administrator to bump up the memory allocated to PHP.  16 MB is a good minimum.  We’ve addressed this issue in our upcoming 1.3.1 release so it won’t be an issue anymore.  1.3.1 should be out any day now.  It’s basically a maintenance release that has lots of bug fixes.

Your second issue seems quite odd.  Have you checked the forum permissions?  Go into your forum management area and make sure the permissions are set properly for each forum.  We’ll do a little investigating on our end.

We don’t get a blank page as such, the page you’re currently on gets redisplayed, so that might be the same thing… I’ll get the memory allocation boosted and see if that makes a difference.

The forum permissions are all set correctly that I can see - see the attachment. I’m a Super Admin, the guy with the problem is an Admin. It’s only for this new member group. If you’re not logged in, the page displays correctly.

Bit of history, I created the member group *after* I created the forum, then added the permissions.

Just created a new forum, and that has the same problems for the Admins.

I’m simply not duplicating this problem and we have quite a lot of copies of the forum being used, with no one else reporting this behavior.  I wonder what could be going on?  Would you be opposed to me wandering into your control panel and taking a look?  If that’s OK, email me your login info.  Thanks…

I was having the forum display problem today with results similar to the photo posted at the beginning of the thread.  Another admin and I spent a couple hours trying to figure it out, part of that time trying to formulate a search that would bring this very thread up, when I had one of those “forehead smacking moments” and it came to me.  In order for the forum to display the tables correctly, the user/demi-admin must have authorization to view the forum category, and not just the forum.  Once permissions were granted for the forum categories, the forum displayed as it should.  Not sure if anyone has had this problem since this was posted, but I figured I’d leave the “fix” in case anyone else ran into it.

I can’t even *see* the categories. All I can do is create new ones… where’s the ‘view categories’ page then?

Rick, meant to email you. Since this is our intranet I can’t send you the login details. Unless you fancy visiting? wink
