I seem to have misplacesd my blog… well sort of. I was in the Weblog admin and changed the short name from weblog to something more appropriate (or so I thought).

I updated and the blog is gone and not visible at all.

I realize I am new to this, but I would like to get the entries back,

I can see the entries in the “edit” tab, even update them, but no show.

I can ... I think I have the answer… it’s all in the template I bet…

If you have this issue, let me know if I am right…

Frustrating…

That’s right.  If you change the short name of your weblog, you’ll have to update your templates to match the new name.

The reason this happens is that at the very top of every template, by default a variable is assigned for the master_ weblog_name.  So, in order for the templates to show your weblog with the changed shortname, you need to change that first line to point to your new shortname, rather than weblog1.

Heard from Mike lately?

Lisa, regarding:

Ah… are you sure about that?  When I’ve created a new (blank) template, there’s no such default master_weblog_name variable in it.  And also, if one were to clone a template that didn’t have such a variable, it doesn’t get inserted.

Are you talking about some convention that is used in the EE-supplied templates?

Yes, I’m sure.  The default templates that I refer to are the ones from the template library.  EE doens’t just arbitrarily create that, of course not.

How do you know that the template in question came from a template library?

I don’t, but I’m betting that if Jubal built the template himself, then he would know what was in it and how the weblog information was called.

Never Mind… I figured it out.. I had to change all the references in the templates to the new short name…

Sorry to have been an bother… I am a perl guy by trade, PHP ain’t my bag, but is fast becoming (not that I like it, but oh well.)

BTW, that may be a goo thing to do, change the template on the update. Aliad the short name I would suppose that way it will be easier to update. I would do that… but that is me.

Because there is no intrinsic relationshp between templates and weblogs - other than that which you create - it would be very, very dangerous for that type of automatic updating to happen.
