In the old version of the HTML Comment Buttons plugin, I could add, delete or modify buttons in an array in the plugin file.  In 1.1, there’s no such array.  I want to remove the “email” and “code” buttons, and replace them with a “strikethru” button and a button to launch my smiley’s window.  Where do I go to do dat?

Well that is interesting isn’t it?  I can’t even tell where it is getting the buttons it does display.  Is it being pulled from some sort of default within EE?

i figured it out.  it’s in a file called html_buttons.php in your lib folder.  no idea why they broke it out that way or if that file impacts buttons anywhere else (forum maybe?).  Seems to me this plugin should be part of the core.  it’s not really a “nifty add-on”, it’s basic functionality.

It seems to me like possibly they were planing on making it part of the core and didn’t have enough time thus the separation of the buttons from the plugin.  I’m not sure it is basic functionality though.  Very few systems have that built in.  Though it is slowly becoming more commonplace.

Another opportunity to be better than the competition.

There’s a new plugin that was released recently that does just this.

Comment HTML Formatting Buttons

I installed that the other day and it’s pretty snazzy. Is that what yall were talking about? smile

I can’t believe I linked that when yall were talking bout it. Oh I am a doofus! smile

The html_buttons.php library file in EE 1.3 is where we are creating the HTML formatting buttons for the forum submission forms, Private Messaging compose form, and I believe the Signature.  Since that file has become the standard way of creating HTML Formatting buttons for the user side now, I decided that I would use it for the Comment HTML Formatting Buttons plugin as well.

So, logically, if I alter it for my comment form, I’m altering it for all those other things as well, correct?  I’m thinking I may not want to do that.  My next idea, then, would be to make a copy of the html_buttons.php library file, call it something slightly different, and change the plugin file to point to the new library file.  Any reason that shouldn’t work, Paul?

So I guess the answer to the question I am about to ask is YES!?

This plugin replaces/obsoletes the older HTML Formatting buttons plugin?
