Has anyone played around at all with doing a plug-in that would either show the current song playing or to automagically do a playlist entry? I’m specifically interested in using Yahoo Music Engine which has what seems to be a good API and uses XSPF, which is an XML based open playlist file format.

I guess it’s really mainly a matter of parsing the XML for EE - I think.

I’m curious - do you want each song change to actually create an entry in EE?  Or do you just wnat to display the currently playing song?

My blog at Stranahan.com has a now playing thing that works through iTunes - it’s a shareware thing.

Ideally, I’d like a tag that plays the current song in yahoo, which is what I currently use.

I also have a playlist blog - link is on Stranahan.com - and that’s where I’d like to be able to just send a playlist. Previously, I was cutting and pasting.

I’m still a bit lost, can we go over the process?

You use Yahoo music player, on the PC?  You’d like to run a script that would automatically upload that as an entry to your playlist site?  not one song per entry, but the entire playlist.

Do you mean a tag that shows the currently playing song in Yahoo?  Or for someone else to be able to click it and play it themselves?

For most of this I think you’re going to need something from Y ahoo, not via EE, to do this.  Or a script run on your computer, as opposed to EE.  You could have a script that posts via xml-rpc, though, I don’ know of what already.

Sorry for the confusion. There are two things…

1) a Now Playing tag that shows the current song playing…

There’s a Yahoo Music Engine Component to this, which triggers when a new song is played. I’m basing this idea on the system being used now. It would gather into about the current song in XML and then send the XML data to a file on the server.

The EE plug would parse this XML data.

and

2) A playlist sender

On the yahoo end, it would send a playlist - ideally, it would auto post it - maybe as a bookmarklet or something similar. On the EE tag side it would be parsing, so as to decide what to show in the playlist.

Hope that helps.

You can use the magpie plugin (plugins.pmachine.com to download it, or via the plugin manager in the admin panel in the control panel) to parse out the current song.

Well, you need something on the Yahoo side that would send it first, so that the EE side would know what to parse, you know?  I’d hook up with Yahoo or someone familiar with it for that.

Sorry about the confusion. =)

SIGamp.com has a YME plug-in that displays the title, artist and album info on a forum signature for a $1.50 a month.  It may do what your looking for.
