Custom entry fields crashing browser after 1.3 upgrade

I upgraded to v1.3 this week and I thought that all was well but today - on deadline - I found out that all is not well. We added custom fields to the default field group back in v1.0 and it’s worked fine until now. Entering new data into a publish form will now crash the browser every time. It seems to be ok for the first few fields (title, summary, body) but then crashes when it starts to hit the first custom field (either clicking into the field or tabbing to it and either typing data or pasting from the clipboard). I’ve reproduced this in Safari (1.2, 1.3, and 2.0) as well as Firefox (Mac). I used the SQL utilities in EE to repair and optimize the tables but that didn’t seem to help.

Is there a way to revert the default field group back to the original defaults? Or is there anything else I should be doing to fix this problem? I’m in a bind since we are contracted to have the site updated by 9 a.m. tomorrow (Friday).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There is a known bug with this (somewhere in this forum, I’ll find the link in a moment) that some troubleshooting turned it up as a Safari bug and has now been reported to Safari.  It was able to be replicated in a normal HTML form (nothing to do with EE).

That said, I’ve never seen it reported for Firefox.  Changing field groups, when they’re already populated, is problematic, I can’t really help there.

Grrr. That’s what I get for not reading these forums for a few weeks. We’ll check again with Firefox and, if necessary, IE (ugh). Thank you!

Seth, one solution that seems to work is try changing the field order.  For some random reason that sometimes stops the crashing, it did for me.

Re-ordering the fields did not fix the problem but switching the field type from text input to text area (1 row) on all custom fields solved it. Also, we did see a problem in Firefox that didn’t crash the app but prevented typing into the affected fields. IE appears to be working fine.

Thank you for the assist tonight!

KB: I created a field but can’t type content into it.
