To compile PHP with pspell support, you need the aspell and pspell libraries. Is that correct?

(mod note- split from this thread)

The aspell library is on the server and is required to use the pspell functions in PHP.  PHP must be configured with pspell in order for those functions to exist.

Any word on how to do this on Windows?

Enabling the pspell.dll causes PHP to puke.

I think a lot of people will find as I just found out that on shared server hosting the chances are good that the libraries are installed on your server, but your host will probably be unwilling to rebuild php with pspell :(

Here’s a clue for Windows users who run their own servers:

aspell has to be installed and pspell has to be added to the extensions section of php.ini

Step-by-step instructions are here, but I’ll be damned if I can get it to work. PHP pukes and pages fail to load as soon as the pspell extension is called.

I know this is an older thread, but I though I would add that using similar methods described in the articles, I’ve was sucessful at getting pspell loaded on IIS and later an as a test, Apache, both on a Win2K3 install.  Permissions were a big block for me because of prior configuration on the server (I kinda go over this at http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/79132/, and although it may not directly get you along the way, it may give you some ‘jump starts’ on what to look at if you are having problems.
(all on EE v1.6.3)

The server config is beyond normal tech support (thankfully, because you guys lost me a couple of replies back wink).  But- good thread w/useful info, so I don’t want to close it out.  I’m going to go ahead and shift over to ‘How to’ so discussion can continue as needed.

(And mfraase &leejb;- thanks for the updates.  Others will no doubt find the info useful.)
