upgrade.php never works for me

I upgraded from 1.4.2 to 1.5.2 over a year ago, but at that time, the upgrade wizard did not change the version number, although the upgrade was working. Then I tried upgrading again and ran into the same problem I am now having today. Everything goes fine until I try to run the upgrade wizard to upgrade to 1.6.4. All files have been transferred but the update wizard gives me an error:

MySQL ERROR:

Error Number: 1050

Description: Table ‘exp_member_search’ already exists

Query: CREATE TABLE `exp_member_search` ( `search_id` varchar(32) NOT NULL, `search_date` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `keywords` varchar(200) NOT NULL, `fields` varchar(200) NOT NULL, `member_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `ip_address` varchar(16) NOT NULL, `total_results` int(8) unsigned NOT NULL, `query` text NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`search_id`), KEY `member_id` (`member_id`) )

My site is offline at the moment and I don’t know what I need to do next in order to complete the upgrade and have it know it completed the upgrade. I’ve tried these upgrades at least 3 times with versions between 1.5.2 and 1.6.4 and given up. Today I want to get this done right. Please help.

1.6.2 to 1.6.4 upgrade problems

I’m trying to upgrade my installation, but it doesn’t seem to be completing the process.

I uploaded the files & checked the permissions. Clicked to upgrade from 1.6.2 to 1.6.3, and it seemed to work properly. Then clicked to upgrade from 1.6.3 to 1.6.4, and it just reloaded the same page again with the same link to upgrade from 1.6.3 to 1.6.4. Now my CP says I’m running 1.6.3, but if I reload update.php, it says I’m still running 1.6.2, and displays the link to upgrade to 1.6.3.

Other than this, though, it seems to be working fine. The site displays ok, and clicking around in the cp, nothing seems wrong. Is there some way to force the last upgrade through?

Hi,

I just upgraded to 1.6.4 and everything during the upgrade process ran smoothly. I then re-installed the Forums software, as stated in the upgrade instructions.

When I try and access the site I just get a blank screen. I also tried the control panel, and it is just a blank screen too. I did a “View Source” in my browser, and there isn’t any HTML at all.

Any idea what might’ve gone wrong? I double checked permissions, and everything looked fine.

As it was important for me to get the site back online, I had to revert to the backup (which launched fine.)

Any thoughts would be appreciated before I attempt this again.

First Installation of EE using a mac (10.4) to install on EngineHosting

Hey guys.

After a million years away I’m back. Well at least trying to be back. and I’m having a couple of issues.

Firstly .htaccess on mac. How? I followed some instruction on how to show . files on mac, and I can see them but can’t edit them unless they have a file extension like .txt or .rtf at the end. and the server seems to be ignoring the ones i badger to just .htaccess but it abides by the one that is .htaccess.rtf. Also all of my files/folders etc are grey now. I thought only the .ones would go grey? ideas?

and secondly I’m trying to install and I’ve hit a brick wall. The install script doesn’t like my email address (davidwebb_uk@mac.com) umm huh? it’s a valid address…

and thirdly. This could be more enginehosting problem but here we go.

I want the following urls…

http://not-just.photography-of-rock.com
and http:// system*.photography-of-rock.com

*not its real name

and at the mmoment the file structure is…

public_html/main for the folder that not-just directs to
and i want system.photography of rock to redirect to public_html/main/system*

I’m trying this in the .htaccess file

RewriteEngine On
     RewriteBase /
     RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^not-just.photography-of-rock.com [NC]
     RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !main/
     RewriteRule ^(.*)$ main/$1 [L] 

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^system.photography-of-rock.com [NC]
     RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !system/
     RewriteRule ^(.*)$ system/$1 [L]

But am unsure if that will work. I’m assuming i can’t move the system folder out of the ee folder chain.

Hello everyone:

I’ve done several upgrades since 1.4.2 and right now I am trying to install upgrade 1.6.4 and I receive the following error:

An error occurred while attempting to fetch your config.php file. The file seems to contain no configuration values.

I have backed-up the config.php and config_bak.php as well as path.php

They have the right permissions.

The files have content, they’re not blanks.

I cannot get to run the script. It is kicking the same error message.

I’d appreciate your prompt help

p.s. I can send you my config.php and path.php if you need to see it.

After move/upgrade, cannot change admin settings in cp

All seemed to go well with my move to a new server and upgrade from 1.4.3 to 1.6.3.

However, in the cp / admin-general config settings, when I try to make the site viewable to the public, I find some vital things missing from the cp, like the Enter button at the bottom, and the “yes and No” next to the checkboxes at the top (for whether you will make it live or not). I tried just checking the left (appropriate ) one anyway, but that did not take.

Any ideas? Everything else seems OK.

Upgrade from 1.6.3 to 1.6.4 not working in Internet Explorer and other issues

Hi there peoples,

I have just installed the latest version of EE and I have had some problems. The install itself was great no issues there, I usually run it on firefox and that was ok although it was much slower than the previous version. Testing it on Internet Explorer didn’t go well at all. It will not bring up the logon screen at all.

Has anyone else had this issue or could someone help me out.

Looping SQL errors when trying to upgrade from 1.5.2 to 1.6.3

I am getting three SQL errors when I attempt to upgrade from 1.5.2 to 1.6.3 No matter what I do, even if I delete tables and follow what SQL tells me, I can’t get out of them. Please see the errors below. Any ideas?

Expanding EE Zip files

I have downloaded the EE updates (1.6.4) twice and keep getting an error message when I try and expand them.

The message is:

An error occurred attempting to expand /Applications/Expression engine/ExpressionEngine1.6.4.zip The archive may be damaged (Error #17537)

This has happened on ExpressionEngine1.6.4.zip
EE_Forum_2.1.0zip
EEDocs1.6.4.zip

The only one that worked was EE_MSM_1.0-1.zip

I have tried other zip files as well and they open OK.

Has there been problem with the zip files?

Running Mac OS 10.5.3/ Stuffit Expander v12
