Veterans Council of Chatham County

We recently released a new site for the Veterans Council of Chatham County.

From the text we wrote for our portfolio:

Getting a few people on the same page can be difficult. When you are the Veterans Council of Chatham County and are made up of 23 veterans’ organizations it can be impossible unless you have one place where everyone can communicate and where you can streamline your information. Enter eMarketSouth. First we started with a design fitting of an organization of its caliber. Then we added the contact information and details about all 23 organizations into one easy-to-read list. We created a news feature that is completely dynamic and which pulls the most recent items to the home page. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, we made easy for visitors to donate either for the World War II monument or by purchasing a WWII monument brick. eMarketSouth is proud of this project and honored to have worked on it.

This one is a pretty vanilla EE install. Freeform for the contact form, some jQuery enhancement in a couple places. Probably the part I like best is the excellent work our designer did with the clean design and CSS effects.

Downtown Lincoln Association/Historic Haymarket

We recently launched two related websites:

Downtown Lincoln Association
Historic Haymarket

The two sites are running on the MSM, as they share some common resources (e.g., business and housing directories). The client loves the fact that they can manage a wealth of information that is shared across two sites from one central CP.

Once again, EE made it easy to develop the sites fairly quickly. The bulk of the work was importing the data from their previous sites, which required a lot of back and forth with the client to get their data cleaned up and organized. (FWIW, Solspace’s Importer module was a lifesaver during this process.)

One tricky part of the site was that I needed to work around the fact that the weblog module’s “search” parameter doesn’t work across multiple sites in the MSM. Thankfully, some clever folks on the forum figured out a solution, which you can find here. Thanks guys!

B&B Listings Site

Hiya,

We’ve just re-launched a South Africa bed and breakfast listing website. The site makes extensive use of categories, and to make it easy for editors to publish content we created a weblog per province. This means an editor can publish a listing straight into the relevant province, and side panel modules pull content from specific weblogs as appropriate. You can see an example of how we used weblogs and categories here:

Weblog (provincial): Western Cape B&B
Category Level 1 (region): Cape Town B&B
Category Level 2 (town): Camps Bay B&B

We had to optimise our templates as we’re experiencing certain times of the day when performance is not quite ideal but I think we’re close to conquering that as a number of queries return a large amount of data. A slight headache was effectively migrating all legacy URL’s from the previous site which was achieved using mod rewrites and a db table to store the URL mapping. This ensures all URL’s are permanently migrated across.

Thanks goes to Laisvunas (child Categories), Solspace (Freeform), Andrew Weaver (CSV Grab), Rick Ellis (Char limiter) and Leevi Graham (Htaccess generator) for the plugins/extensions used in the site.

London Insight Meditation

This isn’t our first EE site but it launched today with a very happy client

London Insight Meditation

The site is for information/events-booking and downloading audio files (Teacher Talks) based in the insight or vipassana meditation tradition.

Most of the EE funcionality is out-of-the box and this is the first CMS site for them, the previous site was built in-house.

Thanks to everyone who helped along the way and a big thanks to the Ellis labs team for creating and supporting such an outstanding product.
