        <p>I&#8217;m sure people have mentioned this before, I develop in EE alot and I am always running into the same problem of not being able to create any dynamic variables.&nbsp; If I want to decide which categories to show based on a segment, then it would be nice to simply have a variable I could assign within a loop to do that.&nbsp; I run into this on almost every project and I usually have two options, write sloppy EE code that has my code recopied for every instance within a If then Else statement or use PHP, which I really try to avoid doing.&nbsp; It wouldn&#8217;t have to be very robust, but it would add a great degree of functionality if we could just assign dynamic string vars.&nbsp; I bet there&#8217;s a good reason this isn&#8217;t already a feature, but I know several people who do EE development, and they&#8217;ve run into the same problem.&nbsp;

BTW- EE is an awesome product!

        <p>Hi guys.

<p>
I&#8217;d really like to see a small tweak to the language of the HTML link button on the editing screen.&nbsp; You know, unless that&#8217;s getting overhauled in 2.0 <img src="http://ellislab.com/images/smileys/smile.gif" width="19" height="19" alt="smile" style="border:0;" />

Something like this in lang.publish.php:

        <p>hi,
</p>
<p>
here <a href="http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/expression-engine-vs-textpattern"><b>hicks</b></a> compares ee with textpattern. i myself use ee for now 3 (?) years, and i could sign everything, regarding the advantages and the disadvantages (except statistics - i love and need them!). i quote the disadvantages:
<br />
<blockquote><p>**** My biggest beef with EE is the admin panel. I find it needlessly complicated, with options hidden behind many overly-wordy, illogical links and dropdowns. While a certain amount of this is inevitable with the level of control that it offers, it’s certainly more painful than it needs to be. The longer I have to look at it, the angrier I get!
<br />
**** EE promotes itself as a CMS, rather than blogging tool, yet out of the box it insists on referring to ‘weblogs’. This can be changed through one of many preferences to something more logical like ‘section’, but the template tags will still refer to weblogs. Harumph.
<br />
**** /index.php/ shouldn’t be in URLs by default, and it’s right pain to get rid of (but you can do it). Likewise, getting simple /section/title/ urls requires a lot of work. For something so flexible, getting the URLs I want is painful. With a new site this isn’t so bad, you can put up with the extra URL segment, but when converting a site from TXP, and not wanting to write large .htaccess redirections, it’s vital.
<br />
**** EE seems obsessed with statistics, time taken to render page etc. It’s all superflous fluff. Generally, I’m left with the feeling of “I wish I could just get rid of this bit here…”
<br />
**** A smaller rant, I’m none too keen on the tags: some require exp: at the start, some don’t.
<br />
**** File management is behind Textpattern, which has more control over uploaded images and files. This really surprised me! There is a good file manager plugin for EE, but this review is looking at built-in functionality.</p></blockquote>

        <p>This is a FR that is generated due to the tech support request found here:
</p>
<p>
http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/63392/
</p>
<p>
Basically, if you had multiple sites in one install of EE WITHOUT the MSM, and you buy the MSM and migrate those multiple sites into their own MSM sites, you LOSE YOUR COMMENTS.
</p>
<p>
I&#8217;m surprised this still hasn&#8217;t been added. How can this not be seen as a serious flaw? If you were running EE with multiple sites before (without the MSM I mean), and you switch to MSM so that you can continue to get official support for multiple sites, isn&#8217;t it OBVIOUS that you would want your comments to carry over?
</p>
<p>
Is there ONE web publisher on Earth who would RATHER have their comments just fall by the wayside instead of carrying over with the blog post?
</p>
<p>
I mean, yeah, a FR can be requested (as I have done here) - but if this isn&#8217;t a bug, it is a MAJOR MAJOR oversight. Let&#8217;s call a spade a spade here. The fact that I brought this up almost a year ago, had to pay someone to come up with a manual kludgey solution (on top of the MSM fee), and it still hasn&#8217;t been addressed - that concerns me a bit as someone whose business completely depends on EE and the MSM in particular.
</p>
<p>
Hey, I still love you guys and the product, but this is a big one.

        <p>Long ago in a program far, far away called pMachine, there was a quick, easy to set up Event Calendar capability. Since the death of pMachine, creating an Event Calendar&#8212;a really common part of community web sites&#8212;has become an study in frustration and a test for the practice of inner calm.
</p>
<p>
Please, please, please create a real, full-out event calendar module.
</p>
<p>
Having to read 6 different pieces of documentation including a wiki entry and assorted forum threads and then spend days debugging why the next and previous links don&#8217;t work and kluge together some PHP so I can list recurring or span multiple is not a valid program feature. It&#8217;s especially wrong that I can&#8217;t have an event list over multiple days without disappearing once the end of the event has past. Many times it&#8217;s useful for people to see what kinds of events have already taken place for an organization.
</p>
<p>
So please, given the amount of threads spent on discussing creating a basic, true calendar of events, develop a module.
</p>
<p>
Now back to wrestling with hacking something together for my non-profit client. See you in the tech support forum.

<a href="http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/51261/">http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/51261/</a>

<p>
There is a need for better GUI handling of some of the features in the photo gallery as it pertains to resizing. As it turns out, in order to get the results that I need, I need to edit/system/core/core.image_lip.php, finding the line
</p>
<p>
var $master_dim = &#8216;height&#8217;; // height, width, or auto (auto adjusts the dimension based on whether the image is taller then wider or vice versa)
</p>
<p>
and changing its value. I didn&#8217;t see anything about that in the EE documentation, and was only told about it in Tech Support. So first, that SHOULD be something that is documented. But secondly, this would be great if it were something that we could change in the CP. This way, I wouldn&#8217;t need to remember to do it every time I upgraded EE, since that line would get overwritten when the new file is uploaded.
</p>
<p>
You can place it right in the gallery resizing preferences.
