I upgraded to a Dell R710 with VMware sphere 4 virtualization.  Now I could run Expression Engine in apache/mysql/php on a separate virtual server from the server running IIS and MS SQL server.

Will I be able to move the current EE [1.5.2] site which was built in IIS/mySQL/php over to Apache and then upgrade to EE 2.0?

can I simply buy the personal license and upgrade from 1.5.2 to 1.6.8? Or do I need some steps in between as this is a very old version I’m having here.

to turn on error reporting and these are the errors:

I’m not sure what that means?  All permissions are set properly. Any help is appreciated!

PS, I moved from PHP4 to PHP5 could this be a problem?

I am moving an EE 1.6.7 site from one server to another *and* changing the domain name.

I have moved EE sites before w/o much trouble, but this one is giving me a white screen when I go to the control panel. The home page loads as well as can be expected for having the wrong paths set in the CP.

I followed this wiki page and double checked my file permissions and db settings.

I also set error_reporting(E_ALL) in index.php, but I don’t get any errors or output from the control panel.

Any tips on what I should try next?

So does this mean I can change the sql_mode via EE? If so, how does it work?
Or is this a purely MySQL setting?

5.1.8. Server SQL Modes

The MySQL server can operate in different SQL modes, and can apply these modes differently for different clients. This capability enables each application to tailor the server’s operating mode to its own requirements.

Modes define what SQL syntax MySQL should support and what kind of data validation checks it should perform. This makes it easier to use MySQL in different environments and to use MySQL together with other database servers.

Everything went fine running /system/update.php.  I chose the option to update database.  How can this be fixed.  I am own the full version of 1.68—not using the free core.

For example, there’s the issue of exporting and importing the database. And then, what about all of the Admin settings, like category, field, and status groups: Do you have to recreate them all again manually in the control panel on the live installation?

I’ve already done an installation of EE (successfully), and now about to do another. So in a way this is an academic question, but I still wonder what it means:

“Image files should be uploaded in BINARY format. The texb.ttf (TrueType Font) file in the
system/fonts/ folder should be uploaded in BINARY format. All other files should be uploaded
in ASCII format (also known as “text” format).”

How do you know if you’re doing that or not? I have no idea. I use Dreamweaver to do uploads, but have no idea what format it’s uploading in. I just upload all the files in one hit.

Is this binary/ascii thing something we can just expect to work? Or is there generally some specific action that should be taken?

Using the form and entering the captcha text returns an error that the captcha is incorrect. All my captcha images are under /images/captchas/ and the directory is set to 777. In the CP, my captcha prefs are set to “Use TrueType Font for Captcha?” YES; “Add Random Number to Captcha Word” YES; “Require captcha with logged-in members?” YES.

The strange thing is, captcha is working fine for the comments form under my blog pages, such as here. The code for my home page contact form looks like this:
