The method I am talking about is discussed here:

I’ve always just developed my own sites using EE and for all intents and purposes, the only dynamic aspect to my navigation menus is the active state of the button which I do using conditionals. I usually just have a template which holds the navigation html which I embed into the various templates of the site and when the navigation needs updated, I just update the embed template file.

I’m wondering though, what are some other ways you’re developing a dynamic navigation? I’ve read Boyink’s tutorial where he outlines how to do a dynamic navigation bar based on a weblog (or multiple weblogs) and I like it but I wasn’t real sure how to do both dynamic links along with static links like a contact page (that may link to a separate template not a weblog entry).

Any other great techniques out there that you all like to use when creating a navigation structure that easy for the client to update so that they do not have to get in and get their hands dirty with the html templates?

I’m new to EE, but planning to purchase and implement soon. Can anyone recommend a good hosting provider with fair pricing? I have head good things about enginehosting.com, but their pricing is quite high. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here’s my situation: I have three domains that I need to run using a CMS. I already developed one of these--the main domain for my web hosting account--in Drupal. Two other add-on domains for that account, for which I want to use a CMS, are currently undeveloped. My plan is that eventually, everything will run on EE.

Toward that end, I recently purchased my EE + MSM license. My original thought was that first I’d get my feet wet developing a site for one of the undeveloped add-on domains, before going through the process of converting the Drupal site to EE.

However, after looking at the documentation, I’m wondering if:

A. I need to convert the main site first, because that will have to be the default site, or
B. I can install EE without MSM for now, develop one of the add-on domains, and then later add MSM and define the main domain as the default. (In my head, that doesn’t seem like it will work, attractive as the idea is.)

I appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Hi
I am working on the news section of my web site where i have created 2 categories
news_releases
press_releases.
I have assigned some news webblogs to each of these categories. When you click on the news link on the web site navigation you are directed to the news template displaying the latest news weblog as the main news story and then a list of news weblogs titles on the right side.
http://corvil.pmhclients.com/index.php/news/category/news_releases/

This all works fine. Here is my code for displaying the category news weblog titles on the right

{exp:weblog:entries weblog="news" orderby="news_date" sort="asc"}
<li><a class="current" class="last" href="{url_title_path=news}">{news_title}</a></li>
{/exp:weblog:entries}

My problem occurs when you click on one of the news weblogs titles on the right. here is the url when clicked.

http://corvil.pmhclients.com/index.php/news/credit_suisse/

I lose the list of articles on the right as it does not know what the category is now as it is not part pf the url.

Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks

Hey, I’ve been registered for some time now but I never really got into finding out what makes Expression Engine so different. I read the complete feature list and it looks pretty amazing.. but what makes it a better choice than other really flexible systems such as Wordpress or Movable Type. I’ve been using Movable Type for some time now cause of how flexible it is with it’s templating system, it’s archive mapping and really simple interface. So my question is.. how would EE make my site better?

I’ve been reading through the documentation and I’m still have trouble understanding the whole template paradigm for archives (index.php/template-group/template). For the moment being I think that isn’t too flexible considering MT lets me create my own archive mapping. For example I can set it to save my archives to BLOG-NAME/CATEGORY/YEAR/MONTH/ENTRY-BASE-NAME.php or simpley BLOG-NAME/ENTRY-BASENAME/index.php. Personally I want to have full control of how/where the archives are saved (or in the case of a dynamic system I want to have control of the URL it displays.. just cause i’m picky and perfeccionist). So.. anyone please help.. how can I make EE my own?
