Did you guys see that ExpressionEngine was “featured” in a Smashing Magazine article? You can view it here. Just wanted to point it out for fun.

*EDIT*
It’s great to see that this community doesn’t mind setting the record straight on another website without acting like rabid fanboys/girls. The comments left on the article by members of this community had the very distinct cultural impression that is exemplified here everyday. Great manners and a willingness to share knowledge. It was pretty impressive!

I’m desperately trying to get out of the world of freelance. It’s tough to write code for eight hours-a-day and then come home and have to do it for another six. Sometimes, I actually don’t feel like being online!

This has only been driven home further by a client whom I just can’t seem to come to terms with. To preface, I was incredibly naive with this project: I did not make them sign a contract, I am fairly sure that I under-quoted on the price, and I still haven’t learned how to say no.

The project has been going on for over a year and they just finally paid the full amount that I quoted. I thought the project was complete, and now they’re asking for what I think is a complete redesign. It’s kind of absurd - a person who’s interning there did an extremely unprofessional looking mock-up of what they supposedly want. I sort of want to tell them to have this intern do it!

I’m sure many freelancers have a nightmare client. How did you deal with them?

To those of you just starting out in web development/design - NEVER WORK WITHOUT A CONTRACT. And be sure that your contract clearly stipulates what you’ll be giving the client and if they request anything outside of that scope, be sure that they know that they’ll be paying extra.

Hi All,

I currently have 2 VPSs with PowerVPS, however they are rapidly expanding and the customer service is really suffering as a result. They just took one of my servers down due to a billing error (their fault) and then adopted a “blame the user” attitude.

I’m looking for a new provider for *relatively serious* hosting (i.e. not budget shared hosting, but not full on dedicated either...say $50-$200/month range). I really need a provider I can trust, and I’m beginning to believe that smaller providers may be the way to go. What do you think? Who do you like? love? trust? EngineHosting Pro? Others?

Thanks fellow EE lovers,

Google Analytics Question

I’ve been poking around Google Analytics a lot these days, and I’ve noticed some interesting discrepancies.

The biggest discrepancy is this:

So I’m checking out my top content for yesterday, right? And I notice that one page has 1,500 page views. So I click on that page in Analytics, and select “Entrance Keywords” from the dropdown box.

I see that one keyword was used 858 times from 813 unique visitors. That’s great, I think to myself. That’s a pretty decent small scale keyword.

But when I click traffic sources and examine my search engine performance, I only see 32 instances of that keyword listed.

I’ve looked back through previous dates, and lo and behold, the same thing holds true. According to the content analysis, I’m getting a lot of traffic from some keywords that rarely show up in my search engine keyword reports.

Has anyone else noticed this? I’m wondering if I’ve screwed something up.
