I named my wireless network “Athena” because I remembered a fascinating conversation about Athena that took place between two characters in Neal Stephenson’s novel Cryptonomicon.

I was thinking last night that folks must have a variety of reasons for naming networks the way they do. For instance, my son named his wireless network “Taco” because a taco was on his mind at the time and it sounded a fun idea. The wireless network in my building at the college is named “Tsunami,” but I’ve never bothered to ask why. (I will next week.)

Being as it’s Friday, I thought I’d ask around to see if I could find some more interesting names and reasons.

What did you name your wireless network and why, or do you know of other networks with odd name and reasons?

Hey guys i just found this and think it has serious potential

Watch this 6 minute video for a screencast

http://code dot google dot com/p/zen-coding/

Basically it works by producing short css like syntax to create lines of code in super quick time.

It has integration for all the usual suspects coda, textmate, DW.

Loving it so far.

HELP!!!! Mac OSX not capturing mouse pointer in screenshots…

Hiya,

I did post somewhere on the forums about this quite a while back but didn’t get a reply and I know that this is probably due to this being quite a weird one but I thought I’d try again so here goes…

For some time now my computer has been able to take screenshots in the regular way Apple-Shift-3 but the mouse pointer doesn’t get captured along with the rest of the screen.

At the time I first noticed it I tried absolutely everything I could think of to get it back again such as preferences broken, upgrading system software, checking for programmes that might me interfering with the process. Using MacPilot to check no hidden preferences had been changed somewhere.

Nada, nothing, diddly squilch :-(

I couldn’t for the life of me find a magic switch!! I tried using other screenshot utilities and they can all capture the mouse pointer just not the standard built in option which is very very strange.

Just yesterday I thought I’ll give it another shot as I wanted to take some screenshots without using a 3rd party utility and it’s still there, well I mean the mouse pointer isn’t there but the problem is.

I then thought to try another user as I thought that maybe I have missed a preference somewhere and a new user would prove to me right away if that’s right or not.

No luck. Same with a new user so now I’m thinking this is something more involved.

Anyone ever seen this or heard of this before and have any ideas?

Also anyone know if there is a hidden preference file somewhere in the system that might be over-riding this?

Mac OSX 10.5.8

Thanks.

Best wishes,

Mark
