Upgrading from ExpressionEngine Core to Full Version

This page contains instructions for updating from the ExpressionEngine Core to the full, purchased version.

Important:  If you are upgrading from a Core version that is older than the current full version please instead use the standard update instructions after performing the instructions below.

Step 1

The first step is to download the full version of ExpressionEngine software. Once you have downloaded it, Unzip the software to your local computer.

Step 2

Replace the following folders on your server with the new versions you just downloaded:

Important: If you have installed any third party Plugins, Modules, or Extensions, then you should download those files from your server first and reupload them after updating the core ExpressionEngine files. Language files for Modules and Extensions will be located in system/language/.

Be sure that you upload all files in ASCII format (also known as "text" format).

You are now finished!

Just to be sure, if you have renamed you system folder during the initial installation process, you would use that name instead of literally “system”.

If you plan on enabling member photos, avatars, and attachments, you should CHMOD those folders to 777. Make sure after you upgrade to Personal that you go into Admin > Members and Groups and edit the paths so they are correct and not ..../.../attachments or anything like that. wink
