When masking access to the CP and connected via HTTPS the default file upload fails with an error reporting “The path specified in your image upload preferences is not correct”.

Other types of file uploads do work though… such as Ngen File Field.

Just to note- I’m not replicating this one.  But I see Adam did.  So trying to figure out the difference.

Just a couple of notes on our setup.

We are using a LAMP setup on a dedicated server with Rackspace. We also use MSM and get the same results logging in with different domains.

Todd- I dropped you an email with some more details in it.  Hoping I can take a closer look at a site exhibiting the problem.

With Robins help, I can confirm that this is NOT an ExpressionEngine bug but was related to some openbase dir restrictions the server had in place. Even though we had a vhost.conf file that turned off those restrictions, we did NOT have a vhost_ssl.conf file that did the same for https connections.

After creating that file with the instructions found in this thread…
http://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/70154/
it fixed the problem.

So it was definitely server related. Thanks Robin for your help.

Thanks for the detailed response- and ‘ARGH’- I should have replied back here as well with my findings to put things ‘on the record’ for future reference.

Yes indeedy- even outside of EE, we were unable to access the files with a really simple test script.  Thanks very much for laying out how you resolved it!
