Tuning the Engine: EE 2.0 Week on EE Insider

Its been a quiet week on the EE Blog. That’s because we’ve been working closely with Ryan Ireland and Kenny Meyers to bring you a full week of EE 2.0 news over at EE Insider. Its been five days of articles, screenshots, a screen cast, interviews, and new information.

If you just want the most important bits, they are:

ExpressionEngine 2.0 will be released on December 1st, 2009. The Commercial license will retail for $299.95, the Non-commercial license for $149.95, and there is a new license type called Freelancer. We’ll have more info on Freelancer in November but the basic idea is that its an easy way for a freelancer (or small team) to deploy EE 2.0 on their own website for $99.95 (please note that the Freelancer is not the Commercial license, just cheaper). If you purchased EE 1.6.3 or later, the upgrade price to 2.0 is only $50 (the retail price difference). That’s a year and half (plus) of grace period on upgrades.

If you haven’t been to EE Insider in a while (or ever), you’ve got some catching up to do! If you have questions/feedback that you’d like an official response to, please post it in the thread for this post. We won’t be responding directly at EE Insider, but we’re happy to answer your questions here.

I want to thank Ryan, Kenny, the team at EllisLab, Veerle, and Brandon for contributing despite the tight schedule and being road weary from traveling back from EECI2009.

Which reminds me, I owe Robert and the incredible team at Whoooz! webmedia a separate write up of EECI. The short version is that it was extraordinary and I expect it to influence future events.

Since returning from EECI we’ve been tuning the engine so to speak, making sure everything is running smoothly because the next few weeks will race by and December 1st will be here before we know it. Here is what you can expect from us from now until release.

Next Tuesday we’ll have the final “EE 2.0 Progress” update on the blog. We just started our final dev Sprint prior to release. Tuesday we’ll bring you up to speed as usual.

Next week we’ll convert the EE 2 Sneak Preview page into the official EE 2.0 faq, update it regularly, and give it a proper spot at ExpressionEngine.com.

From November 10 on expect to see new information on EE 2.0 (and related resources) appear regularly on this blog. We’ve got a lot to share and we’re very excited about doing so.

See you on the forums!
