SXSW Panels, UI Sprint, Usage Survey
If you are doing a SXSW Panel that in some way involves ExpressionEngine or CodeIgniter, post about it in the discussion thread for this post. We are putting together a blog post about EE SXSW panels in order to get them as many votes as possible. We know about Kenny Meyer’s & Happy Cog’s ExpressionEngine 2.0: Total Domination! panel, any others? I suspect so. Don’t be shy, let us know!
I know skeptics will ask, justifiably, “will 2.0 be out by SXSW 2010”, the answer is yes. Given our prior, quite humbling, release timeframe mistake, you better believe I wouldn’t post this if I wasn’t 100% certain and then some. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves, so let’s move onto the actual beta progress update!
This week we kick off a two week Sprint (see previous post) which is mostly dedicated to the first UI revision based on Beta1 feedback.
In addition to the feedback on the private beta forums, we implemented a custom click tracking solution into Beta1’s Control Panel. This utility collects:
- The Session ID which lets see the “use trail” through the CP
- The class & method being called (tells us the section & page being viewed)
- How long a user was on a page
We also asked people to tell us if they are a Beginner (yes, we have some in Beta1 already), Developer, Designer, or a Power User as a way to further put the data into a usable context.
At the end of the Sprint, the revisions will be rolled into a build of Beta1 and released to the test group. We’ll give the Beta1 team a week or so to play with the revision and provide feedback, then start prepping for Beta2, which will introduce 2.0 to an even wider test group.
And last, but not least, next week we’ll be posting an ExpressionEngine Usage Survey on this blog and asking you to help make sure that as many EE users as possible take it. We revamping EE’s license options to reflect the expanding needs of the EE community and your feedback will help shape that.
