Meet ExpressionEngine 2.0 at SXSW 2009
I’m pleased to announce that our CTO Derek Jones has given the green light to have the ExpressionEngine 2.0 “alpha” accompany us to SXSW 2009.
Now, this is exciting news, but if we learned anything from last year’s SXSW its to speak plainly and avoid the hype. We’ll have laptops with the latest internal build of ExpressionEngine 2.0 installed. Essentially this is somewhere between an alpha and what we intend to release as the Developer Preview. That means you can’t take it home with you, but its a significant step in the development process that we’re happy to show people in small group settings, such as the Date with EllisLab opportunity we posted about earlier this week. A small, informal setting like this let’s us demo what we have in a tangible way as well as explain the caveats of what alpha software entails.
How close is the Developer Preview? The answer is a lot closer than we were a month ago. Robin and Pascal have done an incredible job which has let Derek Allard and Derek Jones concentrate on finishing up their remaining “big” 2.0 Dev Preview projects.
We’re at the point where every extra bit of head space we give our development team has a 10x impact on productivity. We challenged our support team to find ways to help the dev team stay in that mode and they came through in extraordinary ways.
Lisa, Sue, Ingmar, John, and Greg deserve a big round of applause for the tremendous effort they’ve put in, especially over the last 30 days. They do a bunch of little things that when added up equal more quality time for the dev team to code.
As a whole, EllisLab has been the most productive I’ve ever seen it, which is saying quite a bit, as those of you have been around since the beginning know. There are still two weeks until SXSW 2009 and we’re not letting up until its time to board the plane.
Of course, we realize that the majority of the community will not be at SXSW. Don’t worry, you won’t be left out. We’ll give you a big update post-SXSW and possibly during SXSW if we can find a few minutes to ourselves.
The EllisLab SXSW page has all the information you need to find a way to meet up with us at SXSW. Hope to see you there!
