I Hear You

I hear the plea.

I just finished talking with Doherty, Lisa, and Jones about how to have a real discussion with the community about the issues made public by Kenny. I say made public because the majority of them I am already well aware of. We’ve been working hard to correct a lot of them already.

Historically its no secret that we’ve been bad at communicating with the Community during times of growth and the stress that goes with it. That’s precisely why I hired Leslie Doherty. So, speaking specifically to Kenny’s point #2, yes, unleashing Flinger is already happening.

A blog post or potentially a series of blog posts is how we would normally respond. But we’ve decided that’s not giving this the weight it truly deserves. Instead, we’re going to ask Dan, Lea, & Ryan to bring us on the EE Podcast so we can actually talk about what’s going on with EllisLab. Anybody who has talked with me in person knows that I’m very open about the state of EllisLab and I think an interview will bring that out in a way that a blog post simply can’t.

Flinger is already working on that, but if you think this is a good way to talk openly with you about things, please let Dan, Lea, & Ryan know directly that you want us on and interviewed. If it works out, I certainly love to talk to the community openly that way on a regularly basis.

As I mentioned on Twitter, I board a plane in a couple hours to visit my Grandfather Torkelson for what is likely the last time (pancreatic cancer). I don’t say this as an excuse or to garner sympathy points, its just honest transparency. I need to go take care of very important family business for a couple days.

In the meantime, please know that Flinger, Jones, Lisa, and everyone here at EllisLab loves you guys. We really do. We come to work everyday for your benefit, because we love what we do. If your loved ones says “we need to talk” then we need to talk. Between you and Flinger, I’m confident we can figure out a way to do that consistently.

What you can do to help is respond here or on Kenny’s post or twitter or Facebook… just about anywhere a major discussion is happening we’re following along. Thanks for caring enough to bring this up. It means a lot to me personally.

Much Love,
Les
