First Party Add-ons, Train-ee, Newism Tutorial & Contest
While not sexy, the title is certainly descriptive, so let’s dig in!
Today we are pleased to report that 90%+ of all the First Party ExpressionEngine Add-ons in the Library have been converted from 1.x to 2.x. The primary goal of this task is to give EE developers plenty of 2.0 add-on conversion examples to jump start their own conversion process when the Developer Preview is released. Of course, it also ensures that any First Party Add-on you may have been relying on in 1.x is also available in 2.x as well, so its a win for the entire community.
The “formal review” process we described last time continues in earnest so there really isn’t too much to let you know about except that things are moving along at a steady pace. The next official 2.0 update will be on the 27th of February (or thereabouts).
On another note, I know that I’ve neglected other blog topics the past several weeks, such as the Community Updates. I intend to get those back on track, but currently the best place to get your EE Community news is EE Insider. Ryan is doing a fantastic job keeping the community up to date so if you haven’t checked out EE Insider yet, now is your chance.
The next several weeks are going to be packed. We’ve got SXSW coming up fast and we’ll be revealing our plans for that next week (hint, it involves food, booze, and people), Mike Boyink announced the next Train-ee Class, Tip Toe Through ExpressionEngine. And yes, we’re gauging interest in providing scholarships again. So far we had two Pro Net members volunteer to help sponsor before the class was even announced so its a good bet there will be another scholarship package available.
And finally, my apologies to Newism. I was supposed to post this a bit ago! If you haven’t heard yet, Newism is in the midst of publishing an excellent tutorial that covers the work they did on converting CampaignMonitor to ExpressionEngine. Building CampaignMonitor Part 1, ExpressionEngine Weblogs is now available and is, hands down, one of the best tutorials we’ve read in a while. The Newism team is going in-depth on how they approached the build and gives a lot of insight into their process. EE beginners and veterans are sure to pick up great tips.
Newism also put together an impressive contest to go along with their CampaignMonitor series and EllisLab, Freshview (they make CampaignMonitor), Mike Boyink, and Ryan Irelan are providing the prizes.
