ExpressionEngine 2.1.1 Released!
Wheew, ExpressionEngine 2.1.1!
So first off, ExpressionEngine 2.1.1 and 1.7 are security releases, and we recommend all users update as soon as possible. Special thanks to mklann and EBSCO Publishing for working with us to get these buttoned up.
The 2.1.1 release includes over 50 bug fixes. We’d like to thank each and every one of you for the thoughtful bug reports and feedback.
We’ve also added a number of long desired new features; notably, the Comment Module now has its own dedicated control panel. Identifying and dealing with Spam Comments should be faster, easier, and more satisfying than ever before! The Comment Module, Channel Module, and Moblog Module have all benefited from significant improvements, and we’re really excited about Pascal’s new subscription library. The subscription library has allowed us to add the oft-requested ability to subscribe to an entry without commenting, and have smart notification settings apply to comments.
To celebrate the release, I’d like to share a short transcript from our chatroom.
Brandon: It was awesome to fully participate on a new build for the first time. The entire release is a great balance between bug fixes and new features that address our users growing needs.
Robin: Brandon’s being too modest… about me. The coolest thing is the new comment moderation control panel. Rick should buy me a pony for that one!
Pascal: No way. The coolest thing is the new Subscription library that I built—it’s so slick you won’t know it’s there.
Greg: Slackers- did you see I added a {last_segment} global variable, fixed like 8 kazzilion bugs and worked with some awesome community members to knock out a security issue?
Robin: In all seriousness, I’m excited about this release. I was free to start playing with feature requests and pick my own focus this round. Given the time frame for the build, it was pretty easy to whittle my options down. So with the comment module as my ‘theme’ for the release, I hit the feature requests forums and made a list based on the requests. Then the TSS chimed in on the stuff I had missed and I think Derek pointed out we could go ahead and incorporate comment editing while we were at it.
Brandon: The subscription library really is sweet. I always wanted smart notification to apply to comments. I love it on the forums. And subscribing without commenting? That makes me happy!
Pascal: Yep, I think it’s an elegant solution. I wanted something that wasn’t limited to the comments. The end result will work nicely for those folks who use ExpressionEngine as a platform as well as a CMS.
Greg: My favorite change is the category tag tweak to the show_empty parameter.
Robin: I think that’s one of the oldest requests we had. It is nice to be able to limit the empty check to a given channel or to all channels.
Pascal: That’ll make the customers happy, but the nicest addition for the dev team was clearly Brandon.
Robin: Wordy.Greg: It has helped a ton to have another set of eyeballs checking the code. I think the dedicated testing is going to pay off big time.
Robin: In ponies?
Pascal: No. Bugs. And a lack thereof.
Speaking of which, the tracker is not empty, so we best be going. Enjoy 2.1.1 & Happy EE-ing!
