default_set Needs You!

Want to have your artistic side shown off in ExpressionEngine 2.0 for the world to see?

With the release of EE 2.0, we’re looking to revamp the default avatars set, and we want your contributions. My ability to produce good art ended when I realized that the macaroni and glue wasn’t as tasty as it first appeared (4 years ago), and now I need your help.

The idea of letting the community contribute avatars came from André Fredriksson (thanks!) at EECI2009. Over a beer, he suggested that it would be nice to let the community come up with better avatars - and he’s right! Rather then buying a stock pack, or pulling free icons from the web, we’ve decided to go to the people who really know what ExpressionEngine users want… the users! This gives us a wider variety of ideas and styles, and lets people have a piece of themselves permanently part of ExpressionEngine.

Excited yet? Me too! If you are an artist and would like to produce an avatar for ExpressionEngine’s default set, we would love to see it!

The avatar must:

  • be 100x100 pixels, and should look good scaled down
  • be in png, jpg, or gif format
  • be appropriate for people from all audiences
  • be submitted (see below) by November 27
  • be free from any Intellectual property issues, and you have to be willing to donate it to EllisLab for unconditional use

Otherwise, go nuts! You can submit as many avatars as you like. Please email your submission to derek.allard@ellislab.com and be sure to include your name and website in the body of the message.

At the end of the month, the EllisLab staff will vote on our favourite avatars for inclusion in ExpressionEngine, and your work will be immortalized in the default set, and yourname and website will be listed in a blog entry, and permanently in the EE docs!
