Wow, this sounds like something that would work perfect for displaying tour dates?

If so, I would like to have the ability to show a list of all forthcoming events on one page.
Then an archives page with all the past events, with possibilites to show events per month etc.
For the archives I would like users to be able to post reviews for the events, it would be great if they also could rate them.

no problem

If so, I would like to have the ability to show a list of all forthcoming events on one page.

This is already possible as default BUT there is (still) no paginate available.

Then an archives page with all the past events, with possibilites to show events per month etc.

Every list is group by year, month, day. Have to look if i can add a history list

For the archives I would like users to be able to post reviews for the events, it would be great if they also could rate them.

Reviews and rating will be included in the next version for this software (version 2 and maybe as a module instead of a plug-in)

Thanks Rick! Sounds great to have it as a module.
I’ll keep my eyes on this and wait for the reviews and ratings featured version (which is something I would need to have).

1) This is really a plugin, not a module?  How do you define events?

2) Does this support recurring events?

You enter events thru a admin add form, which is available thru members of a a EE group (config.php).

Recurring events? Not yet but maybe in the final version 1 (still in Beta).

A true event calendar would be a welcome addition to EE. Please keep us posted on your progress.

We just started using EE and think it’s great. In regards to feedback on the events, we also think that recurring events would be great and are pretty much a “must have” for people that use a calendar function steadily.

Additional requests would be:

1. Ability to view Community events and My Events in one calendar, highlited in a way to separate the two. Once again, this makes it easier for those that really use the calendar.

2. Ability to import/Export the events onto your phone/pda via the common formats (Outlook, Palm).

Thanks for the work you’ve already done.

I second-or-third-or-fourth the request for handling recurring events. This has been the sole barrier for one of my clients’ switching to ExpressionEngine.

Do you have anything to share regarding performance issues, et cetera? I’m thinking of the Keyword plugin, which was no longer developed partially because it was so resource intensive (and some other folks have now created a Keyword module - yay them.)

And also, thanks for the work you’ve done thus far!

Thank you for doing this!

Let me add another request for recurring events. I run a major Swing Dance website which I’m going to convert to EE and we have a weekly dance and there are a number of other weekly events.

For a phase two version, it would be nice to have a “second Monday of the month”-style recurring option.

Also, a way to display the events for today and tomorrow as modules would be great (while I’m dreaming.)

I’m sorry if this isn’t very clear, my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

Any ETA on the plug in? I’m working on a site that needs one but I have to wrap it up soon. The description of your plug-in is tantalizing, but if it’s going to be awhile longer I’ll probably have to go ahead and build out something myself.

I ditto the requests for a recurring events feature!

I didn’t see any reply to the ETA questions.  In the meantime, is there anything within EE that can be used as an event calendar now?  If so, how is it done?

I’ve been following this thread since the beginning, and I’m a little dismayed that rikoos hasn’t offered any follow-up. This sounded like a promising project.

Off-Topic:

That being said, I have my own project in the works that some of you may find interesting. It is a plugin called RepEEt. The plugin, in conjunction with custom weblog fields, allows you to:

* create repeating events that occur at regular intervals (i.e. every three weeks, or the third Tuesday of every month)
* exclude specific dates (i.e. the 25th of every month, except December 25)
* identify specific event occurrences if they occur at irregular intervals (i.e. the date of Easter)

This is done using the weblog module’s publish page and custom weblog fields. Since RepEEt is just a plugin, you know there’s no database manipulation going on. Repeating events—or perhaps it’s more accurate to say multi-occurrence entries—are merely “simulated”. Each entry is only entered into the database once, just as any other weblog entry.

The plugin can display data in three ways:

* As a calendar, similar to the results from the exp:weblog:calendar tag
* As an event list, using exp:weblog:entries tags
* As a list of an individual event’s occurrences (i.e. “This event occurs on the following dates: ...”)

I’ve been holding off from talking about the plugin because of a couple very important points. First, I’m no pro programmer. I need to run the code by people who actually know what they are doing. Second, the plugin reuses and modifies some EE code (specifically from functions related to exp:weblog:calendar). Thus, the plugin needs to be run by Rick, Paul, & Co.

So why am I telling you about this now, when RepEEt could end up being vaporware, at least from your perspective? A couple reasons. The first is that I don’t think it is vaporware. The plugin works right now. I’m running it on two of my websites. I want to rewrite some of the code and play with a few ideas running through my head, but it basically works. Second, there is a lot of demand out there for event calendar solutions. RepEEt is not an event calendar, per se, but it helps EE to act like one. I figure that by telling you folks about the plugin, if there’s any demand for this sort of a solution, you’ll tell me about it. And that, in turn, will force me to follow through on the project.

One more important note: this post is basically off-topic. At some point I will start a separate thread to talk more about RepEEt. In the mean time you are welcome to contact me privately, but I probably won’t address RepEEt-related (and therefore OT) questions here. I know there’s no reason to think this thread will ever get back on topic, but still, I don’t want to steal rikoos’s thread in the event that he does decide to show up again.

Has Mr. Wilson (or Rick) made any progress on their plug-ins?  I’m intrigued by both offerings and hope one or the other (or both) turn into a solid sometime soon.
