I tried to get to the forum post for Elwin Zuiderveld’s totally awesome REEOrder module from Devot:ee, but the post is gone. I get a “You are not authorized to perform this action” error, even when logged in.

Can anybody help me track it down? I love it so!

Unfortunately that one is only for EE2, I’m still using EE1. Plus it’s $16.

@kgrote here you go.

@Lisa Do you have any idea what happened to the REEOrder thread?
Also, I did a some testing and it seems that quite a few other Module threads have ‘disappeared’, breaking numerous links on Devot:ee, blogs an even the official Wiki.

Any idea what is going on? Care to share?

We recently pruned the forums, Cocoaholic, so yes - some very old threads are now gone.

Lisa, it might have been an old thread, but it was still relevant and active. Why would such a thread need to be pruned?

Hi, Low - we pruned by date; we did not hand-pick which threads to remove.  We hadn’t pruned the forums in a number of years and most of that data was irrelevant and confusing to newcomers (and some veterans).

Hmmm. Maybe next time pruning by last_entry_date or something would produce a less awkward result.

And I downgraded to ‘Lab Assistant’, too. :(

It is important that if you are going to offer an add-on to the public, you make it available on your site; these forum posts do get pruned and have historically been pruned as well.

I am sorry that this has caused any inconvenience for you.

Oh, unpleasant news. Those “old” threads are a great help. I saw this a lot today:  “Error. The following errors were encountered: You are not authorized to perform this action”. I really believed you are in some kind of optimizing process. But not in this way. big surprise

The original postings may be old but totally up to date (in regard to EE 1.6) and many discussions went until today or the recent past like the REEOrder threat (Google Cache).

Seems like I have to crawl through Google Cache all night and save the relevant threads I can think of locally.  :(

Hooray! Thanks @Cocoaholic, I will cherish this as my own child. Is it EE2 compatible as well?

I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus here, but I understand that the forum needs to be pruned now and then to improve speed an performance, and it seems only logical to post your own work on a personal site as well as the forums, in case of just this occurrence. Or server problems, international cyber-terrorism, what have you smile Plus I think having it on a standalone site adds credibility…

At the very least maybe you could throw it up on GitHub or Google Code…

But hey, it’s your work and it’s awesome so you do what you gotta do!

Everyone should know you’re free to post free add-on files right on devot-ee.com as well. We have a lot of link checking to do on devot:ee now, apparently.

@kgrote: That version is EE1 specific. You’ll need Low’s version for EE2. He’s thrown in some extras and I’ve found it very useful so the $16 is reasonable, IMHO.

Wow.

Feature requests, with dozens of posts… gone. Could there not have been some selection from which forums these posts were removed, ie the general discussion, or CSS/html help as these are not really to do with the core product from Ellislab?

I understand the frustration. Please note that we made it quite clear 10 days ago that resources are going to be moved, removed, etc…

The End (of Beta) is Near: What you need to know.

I highly suggest if you have other threads/resources you don’t want to see gone that you speak up, like we requested. So far we have very few responses and I think its because nobody took us seriously. Now you know.

We’re very intent on moving on to EE 2.x and 2.1’s release will bring a more than just a point update. We’ll do our best to work with the community on what stays and what goes, but you have to tell us what’s essential to you and what isn’t. We can’t guess, not even by “last post” date. Last post doesn’t mean still relevant or essential, it just means there was a post.

There are thousands of old posts that need to go. They contain outdated information, etc… and are a detriment to support, especially to new users. We do not have the man power to manually sift through 1000s of posts.

As we stated in the post, we’ll do our best to restore info that is essential, but we can’t promise its possible every time. It certainly wasn’t our intention to remove active resources. But again, we can’t always tell, which is why we need your feedback. Start now. This is exactly why we posted the notice 10 days ago and its why we need your help knowing what you want us to preserve in some fashion.

I can’t stress enough that when 2.1 is released, EE 1.x becomes a legacy product. Prepare for it. Speak up, save resources that are essential to you in regards to EE 1.x, and let us know what you still want available in some fashion.

@Ryan M. As for broken links on Devot:ee, I publicly apologize for that Ryan. We should have given you guys a heads up. We’ll send you, along with the other Community Partners, info on some of the other changes happening in the near future so you can prep for them in-advance.

Instead of nuking information that may or may not be outdated, and may or may not be damn valuable to people, why not preface any thread with a last entry date older than XXX ( a few months or so?) with a note saying that the info is probably outdated, as it applies to 1.6. I can’t believe you’re hurting for storage space or anything.

There are sites out there that aren’t going to move to 2.1 anytime soon, due to budget issues or other organizational capabilities. Why not leave the info up as a resource?

Can’t we have an archive area for removed content? Often forum posts are more useful than documents IMHO.
