I’m in the process of developing a new add-on for EE to integrate Flickr into your site.  It has two main features right now - a new Flickr fieldtype and a few template tag pairs to display things like your photostream, favorite photos and tags.

The fieldtype allows you to browse your Flickr photos within the new/edit entry page and select a photo to display within your entry.

Flickr for EE works with EE 1.6.5+ and EE 2 and can be setup as a standalone field or as an FF Matrix field (in EE1).  You’ll obviously need a Flickr (free or pro) account to use this.

You’ll find a beta version attached below. Please feel free to download it and take it for a spin.  Any feedback, issues, ideas or even criticism can be left below.

Thanks!

Hi Brett,

Would love to test the FieldFrame if possible. I have a Flickr account all set up and ready so would love to give this a test if possible.

Best wishes,

Mark

P.S. Is this for 1.6.8 or 2.0

Current version is for 1.6.8 but I’m also planning a 2.0 version.

Can you test on 1.6.8?

Yep no problem with either version but always prefer 1.6.8 first as that’s what I use more.

Would love to test this out when possible.

Best wishes,

Mark

Looking for a few more people to test my new FF Flickr fieldtype.  I’ve included the download, along with some minimal documentation.  Please feel free to install and let me know how it goes.  Along with any feedback or other ideas you have.

You’ll find the download at the top of this thread.

Well you already know my thoughts on the FieldFrame wink

Works exceptionally well from my initial tests.

Just to let everyone else know that I mentioned perhaps having Photo Sets show upon clicking choose and also remembering the page you were on next time in case you have lots of pages of images. Also some sort of search by keyword within the images would be nice too.

As to your PM Brett then yes I suppose the sets could be setup in the fields settings although it would be nice to also have the option for all sets to show on the first page and then work your way down in that way too incase you want to choose an image from anywhere in your Flickr account. A bit like navigating through an FTP hierarchy.

Anyway this is a really great fieldframe extension with a LOT of potential. Already handles everything exceptionally well and I’m sure with just a couple of extra little add-ons to it this will be a killer add-on.

Thanks again for letting me test this out early.

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks for the great feedback Mark.  I’m planning on adding a lot more functionality to the add-on over the next few days.

As Mark said, I’ll likely make it easier to navigate your photos by giving the option to browse by set, gallery, tag, or possibly even a search bar.

Just updated my new FF Flickr add-on to v0.9.3!  I added the ability to browse your photos by Photostream, Sets and Tags.

Check out the screenshots below to get an idea of how it works.  Basically you can browse your Flickr photos from within EE, select a photo, then display it, along with info about the photo in an entry.  The new version also has several new tags.

{flickr_field:title} - displays the Flickr photo title

{flickr_field:description} - displays the Flickr photo description

{flickr_field:pageurl} - displays the URL for the photo’s page on Flickr

You can download the newest version at the top of this thread.

Enjoy!

Brett,

All I can say is WOW!!!!! grin

This is truly truly an amazing add-on, well done.

With the new addition of the entire stream, sets and tags you’ve really gone above and beyond on this.

Absolutely fantastic. Works exactly as advertised. Really really perfect add-on this.

Come on everyone else, where are your comments? wink

Best wishes,

Mark

Thanks again Mark.

Over the next few days I’ll be cleaning things up, improving the documentation and maybe even trying to make the installation process a bit faster.  If I have time I may add a few more upgrades before I release v1.0 too.

All sounds great to me. Whilst yes there are a few things you need to do to install this I think it’s not all that much for what you get as the final result.

Once again thanks for sharing this.

Best wishes,

Mark

Just made v.0.9.7 available for download (first post in this thread).  The new version contains a few tweaks to the backend and several new features.

The biggest change is the addition of a bundled plugin.  The plugin allows you to add your Flickr photostream and Flickr favorites to any template with a few simple template tags.  The next version will have even more template tags - tag cloud, Flickr activity, etc.

Take it for a spin and let me know how it goes!

Wanted to put an idea out there to see if there’s any interest.

Would anyone find it useful to have a Flickr browser/chooser within Wygwam (or any of the other wysiwyg editors)?  Meaning you could click a little Flickr icon, browse your Flickr photos, then easily embed the photo in your post.  The image(s) could then be embedded inline with your content more easily.

If you’d find this useful, speak up. Thinking of adding it to the next version.

Hi Brett,

Having it work within Wygwam or MX Universal Editor would be fantastic yes. Would love to see that definitely.

Do you think there’s any way of resizing an image seeing as how the image is on Flickr I’m guessing we won’t be able to use something like Image Sizer to cache a smaller image maybe?

Will hopefully test out the plugin this weekend. Will let you know how it all goes.

Best wishes,

Mark

The Flickr add-on is completely compatible with the ImgSizer plugin, so that’s always an option.  You would simply pass ImgSizer the URL of the image from Flickr, and then set the size in the ImgSizer plugin. The image would then be cached on your server and pulled from there.

Unfortunately I don’t think its possible to use ImgSizer in Wygwam or the other wysiwyg editors.  So I’ll have to look into some other options.

Getting ready to put out the v1 of Flickr for EE this week.  I’ve created a temporary (rough) documentation page.  The page will be redesigned in the next week weeks to make it much more pleasant on the eyes.

You can find the new documentation page here - http://digitalwaxworks.com/expressionengine/flickr/

Get it while it’s hot - v1.0 of Flickr for EE is now available!

The new version adds a few new template tags, easier installation, and best of all, fuller documentation.  Documentation and download links have been updated in the first post in this thread, and below:

Documentation - http://digitalwaxworks.com/expressionengine/flickr

Download - http://digitalwaxworks.com/expressionengine/flickr/digitalwaxworks-flickr_v.1.0.0.zip

To give everyone a better idea of how to use it, here are some example code snippets:

{exp:flickr:photostream size="square"}

<a href="{flickr_url}"><img src="{flickr_img}" alt="{flickr_title}"/></a>
{/exp:flickr:photostream}

Displays your photostream as a row of square thumbnails which link to the photo’s page on Flickr

{exp:flickr:tagcloud}

<a href="{tag_url}" style="font-size:{tag_size}">{tag_name}></a>
{/exp:flickr:tagcloud}

Displays a tag cloud where the size of the tag is proportional to the number of photos tagged with that particular tag

<a href="{flickr_field size=" title="{flickr_field:description}" class="thickbox">
     <
img src="{flickr_field size=" alt="{flickr_field:title}"/>
</
a

Open a larger view of the photo using Thickbox. The photo’s description will be used as the image caption. You would need to include the jQuery and Thickbox code in your header for this to work.

{ff_matrix}

<a href="{flickr_field size="><img src="{flickr_field size=" alt="{flickr_field:title}"/></a>
{/ff_matrix}

Combined with FF Matrix, Flickr for EE makes it extremely easy to create a photo gallery. Simply create a FF Matrix with a single column containing a Flickr for EE field type.

I am helping build/redesign a music festival site. I found your thread while looking for a EE / Flickr tie-in.

In a sidebar, we want to have a flickr mosaic to entice people to visit our Flickr site so as to engage folks and create photo content / archives / promo material.  Have not installed/used your add-on yet . . . but I’m about to try it.  Thanks for being there right when I needed you most.
