I just noticed today that when I use my laptop that one of the tabs inside the publish page doesn’t show up.  It’s the Comments tab from a plugin.  it shows up just fine on my PC, but for some reason it doesn’t on my laptop.  I cleared the cache and even tried a different browser and it was the same thing.  Even stranger, another guy who uses the publish page can’t see the Tags tab (solspace).  He sees the comments tab, but not the Tags one.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on here?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Just to clarify- in both cases, it’s a tab generated by an extension- i.e., a third party add on?  If so, I tend to think it’s add-on specific.  And what’s the particular extension giving you trouble?

Also- what browser did you try with- both where it works and where it doesn’t?  And what are the differences between the two setups?  That should give us a hint.

Yes, it’s a tag from an extension.  I disabled the Reveel Comments extension as I don’t use anyway, but i do use the Tags extension from solspace.  That tab shows up on both of my computers, but the Comments extension didn’t show up on my laptop.  Another person on the site saw the Comments tab, but not the Tags tab.

I use Firefox, but also tried Internet Explorer.  Neither browser on my laptop showed the Comments tag (before disabling), but both browsers on my PC did show it.  Now that I’ve disabled the Reveel Comments, it got rid of the problem since I was unable to see that tab on my laptop (but could see it on my PC).  The other person is still unable to see the Tags tab.  He uses Firefox on a Linux operating system.  He could see the comments tag that I couldn’t see, but can’t see the Tags tab.

it’s very odd.

Is there a specific setting in Firefox that I may have that he doesn’t?

It is likely browser related, but hard to say for certain.  First thing I’d do- login as the member who can’t see the tab (can do it by finding them in the ‘Member’ area of the cp, click their name- and on their profile page in the backend, it’s an option under ‘Admin’.

If you can see it logged in as them?  It strongly suggests it’s browser related.  Once you’ve clarified that- I’d post to Solspace’s forum- let them know the version of EE, the version of Tag- and as many details on the computer/browser differences as you can.  I skimmed the forum and didn’t spot a similar issue.  But they’re more up on it than I am.

Let me know what you spot- while I don’t THINK it’s a bug in the core EE code, I want to keep a close eye on it just in case.

Make sense?

I logged in as that user and was unable to see the Tags tab.  It appears to be user specific and not browser related.  Any ideas?

I logged in as another user who has author privileges and the Tags tab wasn’t there for him either.  So it appears to only show up for admins for some reason.  Is there some way I can change that?

For that one- my bet is a simple permissions issue- could be an EE setting- check the settings for the member group (in Admin- Member Groups) and make sure they have access in ’ Module Access Privileges’.

Aha- a look at Solspace forums suggests that’s the case.

Look like all is well now?  I don’t think there’s a native EE bug in play based on the general behavior.
